First, the basics: what is a dental implant?
An implant is a structure placed in the jawbone to support a replacement tooth. A connector and crown may be fitted to it. Different arrangements of replacement teeth can be used when several teeth are missing.
Tooth loss is different for everyone.
One missing tooth
One option is a single implant with a custom-made crown. The neighbouring teeth and the bone in the area are assessed.
Several missing teeth
An implant-supported bridge or another type of prosthesis may be planned. The number of implants needed is not determined by the number of missing teeth alone.
All teeth missing
Fixed or removable implant-supported dentures and conventional removable dentures can be discussed. The suitable option is assessed through an individual examination and a discussion of your expectations.

Dr Mustafa, when a tooth is missing, when should we use a bridge, and when an implant? Patients are very unsure about this. We sometimes hesitate too. What do you think? Well, my valued colleague, for missing teeth, the patient’s age, bone condition, and the overall condition of teeth on either side all need to be assessed together. If the patient is young, and the bone is suitable, of course, an implant must definitely, definitely be recommended. But if the patient is older, and the bone structure is not very good, but their teeth are somewhat stronger, then, of course, a bridge is recommended. Especially if one of the teeth chosen for a bridge or as a bridge support needs a crown, that is, needs a cap, then I think we should definitely favor a bridge.

“Could implants suit me?”
Your dentist assesses your general health, gums, bone structure and medicines. Smoking and some health conditions can affect healing. Sometimes additional procedures are needed; sometimes a different treatment is more suitable.
Do not stop taking medicines on your own. Share your health history and any medicines you regularly take at your visit.

Now, for an implant to take hold, certain factors must, of course, be present in that patient. Reasons it might not take hold include age, second, it could be diabetes; third, it could be osteoporosis; or the patient may be more prone to allergies. Their body may not accept any material. Each of these factors needs careful attention, and before starting this procedure, these must be thoroughly assessed in the patient.

Treatment takes place in several stages.
Planning follows an examination and any necessary imaging. After the implant is placed, there is a healing period and preparation of the replacement teeth. Healing can take months; everyone’s schedule is different.
Whether temporary teeth can be used, and when the final teeth are fitted, depend on the condition of the tissues and the treatment plan. Same-day teeth are not possible for every patient.
Know the brand. Understand the documents.
We use German-made BEGO and South Korean DIO implant systems. The implant and treatment plan suitable for you are assessed during your examination.
BEGO
Made in GermanyBEGO implants are developed and manufactured in Germany. The implant model is selected according to the examination findings and treatment plan.
BEGO · manufacturer informationDIO
From South KoreaDIO is a dental implant manufacturer based in South Korea. Let’s consider the brand alongside your oral health, restoration plan and follow-up needs.
DIO · manufacturer informationWhy does an implant passport matter?
An implant passport holds the brand, model and product identification details of the implant placed. These records help identify it at follow-up visits or if you see another dentist.
What should I check in the warranty terms?
Warranty coverage can vary by product and programme. Replacement implant parts, repeat treatment, dental fees and laboratory fees may have different coverage. Check the written terms for the duration, covered costs and conditions.
Let’s discuss risks and aftercare, too.
Implant placement is a surgical procedure. Risks include pain, swelling, infection, damage to nearby tissues, altered sensation and implant loss. Your individual risks should be explained during your examination.
Regular cleaning and dental check-ups are needed over the long term. Contact your dentist if you notice an implant moving or persistent pain. A lifelong result cannot be guaranteed for an implant.

Doctor, after an extraction, after surgery, they say not to smoke. Why? Definitely do not smoke. Nothing could be worse than that. Because all we want for the implant is for cells, especially bone cells, to come and attach to the implant. But when someone smokes, nicotine sticks to the implant’s surfaces. It definitely prevents cells from attaching. Please do not do this. Second, after tooth extraction, the socket— the extraction cavity—also undergoes the same process. When smoke enters, nicotine builds up there like a layer. And again, it prevents cells from adhering to each other and stops the socket from filling with blood and cells. After surgery and after implant placement, you absolutely must stop smoking for a while. Definitely.
